Antique Middle Bokuto

Handmade between the end of Meiji period (1868-1912) and the beginning of Taisho period (1912-1926) the Bokuto is in very good condition without any big split.

It is made from Akagashi (Japanese Red Oak) and on the both sides of the Tsuka features a branding iron mark Kanji saying Mizutani, which was the name of the owner. Also on one side of Tsuka there is a number 3 carved exactly on the Mizutani branding iron mark, the meaning of it is unknown.

There is a mark of an old nail which was used to fasten the Tsuba to the Bokuto. The Tsuba is made of several layers of pressed paper, is not in good condition. There is a big crack along the full length and it is bended.
