Genuine Japanese Urushi Lacquered Bokuto

Urushi (Japanese lacquer) has been used as a protective and decorative coating material for at least 6000 years in Japan. From old times until the present, Urushi has been used to coat things like furniture, shrines, and Samurai Armor, as well as tableware and personal accessories.

Even these days the method of collection is by hand and one Urushi tree yields only about one cup of raw lacquer during the half year collection period.

Urushi is a 100% natural lacquer made from the sap of the Urushi trees (Rhus Verniciflua) and has a particular durability, soft surface, bright gloss, and deep color finish. All these characteristic made it over all the years become an important symbol of the Japanese culture.

Made entirely of one piece of genuine 100% Deluxe Japanese Oak and lacquered with genuine Japanese Urushi.
